Coach Bateman's martial arts background spans 40 years and multiple disciplines creating a teaching style that blends traditional values with modern combat sport.
"It's really cool to watching his blended teaching style as he leads children with a mix of playful energy and authority, then brings a highly relatable and down to earth approach to our academy's adult classes, to then turn around and command the respect of a room full of fighters. He has a way of reaching people at their level! - Mrs. Lindsey
He was introduced to Taekwondo and Judo by his father, and Muay Lao (Muay Thai) through friendships inside the Southeast Asian community. This hybrid striking experience lead him to become an MMA striking coach which then introduce him to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Competitively, he reached the international stage in Taekwondo at the International Goodwill Championships (2011) and the World Pioneers Cup (2015) and has competed in both Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the regional level.
Other life experiences provided him an understanding of real world violence. This lead to work as a security consultant and opened doors to providing instruction to multiple law enforcement agencies and the USAF.
He teaches from experience while maintaining constant improvement as a lifelong student of his craft.
"As a husband, father & coach, my goal is to lead with strength, love, and a servant's heart" - Michael Bateman
